Expand your understanding of Gottman Method Couples Therapy, refine your clinical skills, and expand your toolbox of strategies and interventions, and integrate Gottman concepts into your practice. This training includes viewing and analyzing films of Gottman clinicians demonstrating Gottman techniques.

Pre-requisites:

  • master’s degree  or doctoral degree OR current enrollment in a graduate program in a mental health-related field,
  • completion of Level 1 Training,
  • therapy experience highly recommended, but not required.
Free catered lunches! Based on enthusiastic feedback from previous attendees, Dr. Crossen has modified the schedule by providing working lunches during which he leads an interactive Q&A, shows and discusses the required videos, and addresses co-morbidities.
This modification allows for additional time for role-plays, individualized training, and in-depth discussions with Dr. Crossen.

MENU: salad, sandwich, fruit, chips, cookies and beverages with accommodation for specialized dietary needs. Participants will choose their menu options during registration on the first day.

DR. JOHN “JACK” CROSSEN

Dr. Crossen is a Master Gottman Trainer since 2015 and has practiced psychology in Oregon since 1986. He has trained post-doctoral psychologists, taught graduate students, published research, and provided clinical services. He has been a Certified Gottman Therapist since 2008 and has assisted Drs. John and Julie Gottman at multiple couples’ workshops. Since 2012 he has been a Certified Leader of the Art and Science of Love Workshop, and since 2013 he has been a Certification Seven Principles Program Educator.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Gottman Couples Therapy, Level 2, provides advance instruction about assessment and intervention with multiple video demonstrations and role-plays that are confidence-building ways to broaden and deepen skills in the Gottman Method.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

Gottman Method Couples Therapy help couples learn and strengthen their:

  • Friendship System – the foundation for intimacy, passion, and good sex;
  • Conflict System – the basis for helping couples identify and address solvable problems, and understand and manage irresolvable differences; and
  • Shared Meaning System – the existential foundation of the relationship that helps partners discover their shared purpose for building a life together.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Internalize and integrate the powerful, research-based Gottman Method Assessment and Intervention techniques. Learn to:

  • Refine clinical skills and expand strategies and interventions in couples work with by observing and analyzing actual therapy videos;
  • Differentiate when to use Gottman therapy and when it is contraindicated;
  • Assess the couples profiles in areas of Friendship, Conflict and Shared Meaning;
  • Use role-play to practice antidotes to the “Four Horsemen,” to de-escalate Attack/Defend, to help couples to soothe physiological flooding, to guide couples develop dialogue about their grid-locked conflicts, and to help couples deepen their “Friendship System” with rituals of connection; and
  • Identify five different co-morbidities and select appropriate treatment strategies for each.
